Tasks & Task Queue
The Task module holds a pool of reusable tasks. Selecting or assigning a task creates a separate attempt with its own instructions, timers, proof requirements, and result. Several attempts can stay open at once.
Complete a task
- Open Tasks for your active lock. Choose a task if selection is available, or select an existing assignment under Open tasks.
- Read Selected task, including who assigned it, its instructions, Minimum time, Time left to complete, and any verification requirement.
- If a minimum time is required, select Start Timer when you begin. A before-and-after photo task needs its before photo saved first.
- Finish the work, then use the completion method shown: I completed this task, photo submission, Open Writing Task, or Open Quiz.
- Check the result in Task History. Selecting a task, waiting for a timer, or uploading an image does not by itself mean the task is completed.
For the full photo workflow and current review-visibility limitations, read Task Photo Verification.
For creating or completing linked typing exercises and quizzes, see Writing Tasks & Quizzes. Their scoring and failure rules are separate from the Task module's minimum timer.
Open tasks and the queue
A lock session can have up to 10 open task attempts. This includes tasks awaiting photo review and approved tasks still waiting for their minimum duration.
You can work on assigned tasks in any order. Select a row under Open tasks to switch the details shown above. Each task keeps its own timer and verification progress. Tasks you can still work on appear before pending reviews, with newer assignments first within each group.
The queue does not make tasks wait for earlier tasks to finish before their deadlines begin. New assignments become active when assigned. Closing the panel, changing the selected task, or leaving the app does not pause their clocks.
There is also a separate selection rule: you can have only one unfinished task that you picked yourself at a time, including a randomly selected task. Tasks assigned by a keyholder, coach, wheel, or schedule can coexist with it. Once you submit that selected task's proof and it is awaiting review, you can pick another eligible task if the cooldown and queue capacity allow it. The pending review still occupies one of the 10 slots.
When all slots are occupied, finish a task, wait for a review, or have an eligible keyholder cancel an open assignment before adding another. Abandon task also ends an attempt, but can apply failure consequences.
How tasks are chosen or assigned
The module's Task Selection Mode controls the wearer's picker:
| Mode | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Random (Default) | The server chooses from the task pool. Repeats are possible. |
| Random (Each Once) | The server works through the pool without repeating a selection until every task has been used, then starts another cycle. A selected task counts as used even if the attempt is later abandoned or canceled. |
| Lockee Chooses | The wearer chooses from the full task list. Repeats are possible. |
| Lockee Chooses (Each Once) | Completed tasks and tasks awaiting review are unavailable in the current cycle. Once the pool is exhausted, another cycle becomes available; photos still awaiting review remain excluded. A failed or rejected attempt does not count as a successful completion. |
The animated random picker reveals the server's choice. Stopping the animation or closing the panel does not undo an accepted selection.
Assignments can also come from the keyholder's Assign Task control, Wheel of Fortune, an AI or Bot Coach, automatic task schedules, calendar task events, or an extension. These assignments do not replace the other open tasks. Coaches and supported automations can also create tasks outside the saved pool, so always read the assigned instructions.
Cooldown between selections
Cooldown Between Tasks controls when you can pick again. The editor offers 1 minute to 24 hours, with a default of 60 minutes.
The cooldown starts when a wearer-selected task is completed, fails, or has its photo rejected. Simply submitting proof does not start it. Completing a task assigned by a keyholder, coach, wheel, or schedule does not start this picker cooldown, and those assignment sources do not wait for it. They still share the 10-task capacity.
If another selected task is already open, an earlier pending review being decided does not cancel it. The resulting cooldown can affect your next selection.
Minimum timer and completion deadline
These are different controls:
| Control | When it starts | What it requires |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum time / Task timer | When the wearer selects Start Timer | Wait this long before completing the task or submitting photo proof. |
| Maximum time / Time left to complete | When the task is assigned | Complete the task or submit its proof before this deadline. |
For example, a task with a 20-minute minimum and a one-hour maximum must be started early enough to finish the minimum timer within that hour. Waiting 50 minutes before pressing Start Timer does not extend the original deadline.
Configured maximum durations range from 15 minutes to 30 days. Some assignments use a specific deadline instead; follow the countdown shown on that assignment. If no maximum is configured, there is no maximum-duration countdown for that task.
A successful photo submission clears the completion deadline while review is pending. Approval normally completes the task automatically once its minimum duration is satisfied. If it shows Approved (waiting duration), wait for the duration and use the completion control when available.
An unsubmitted task that passes its deadline can be marked failed automatically. The task's configured failure consequences can then apply. The minimum timer reaching zero only makes completion possible; it does not automatically complete an ordinary task.
Completion, rewards, and points
- Ordinary task: after doing the work and finishing any minimum timer, select I completed this task.
- Photo task: submit proof through that task's panel and wait for approval. A photo sent in coach chat is not a task submission.
- Linked writing task or quiz: use Open Writing Task or Open Quiz and finish that activity. Its result controls the linked assignment; the ordinary completion button is unavailable.
Successful completion awards the points and time reduction recorded for that attempt. Task points, time rewards, and penalty requirements serve different purposes:
| Setting | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Points | Adds to the session's task-point total after completion. |
| Require minimum points to unlock | Adds a points requirement to a timer-based lock's normal release conditions. Earning enough points does not skip remaining lock time or other release conditions. Card-game Green-card release is not blocked by this points requirement. |
| Time reduction | Reduces the lock timer when applicable. Minimum lock time and frozen state can limit the change. |
| Penalty task requirement | Requires enough completed tasks within a configured period. This is separate from earning a points total or completing an individual task before its deadline. |
See Penalty Requirements & Periods for progress and deadline rules. Waiting for photo approval is different from having a completed task; check that guide when a requirement period ends during review.
Coaches and extensions may react to task events with additional permitted actions. Check the result and lock history if the final effect differs from the task's basic reward.
Abandonment, rejection, and cancellation
| Outcome | What happens |
|---|---|
| Abandon task | The wearer ends the attempt as failed. The action applies immediately and can trigger configured failure consequences. It is not a pause or a free replacement. |
| Deadline expires | An unfinished task can fail automatically, with configured consequences. |
| Verification rejected | The attempt ends. The same attempt does not currently accept replacement proof; another try needs a new selection or assignment when available. |
| Cancel task | An eligible keyholder ends an open assignment through Manage tasks → Open assigned tasks. Wearers can also cancel their own AI or Bot Coach assignments from the task panel. Cancellation does not award completion credit or use the ordinary failed-task punishment. Connected automations can still react to cancellation. |
The wearer does not see Abandon task while proof is pending. Linked quizzes also use their own result and expiry flow instead of that button. A coach with task-cancellation permission may cancel a task through its supported controls.
To cancel a coach-assigned task yourself, open Tasks, select the assignment under Open tasks, and choose Cancel task. This is available for your open AI and Bot Coach assignments in the current lock session, including while photo review is pending. It does not require coach approval or task-editing permission. Tasks assigned by a human keyholder, wheel, schedule, or extension, and tasks you selected yourself, do not gain this wearer cancellation option.
Task failure and rejected proof can add time, freeze the lock, or request a device action. A task's custom failure time replaces the module's default time addition; setting that custom time to zero does not turn off module freeze or shock actions. Device actions remain subject to consent and device limits.
The current Bot photo-review failure result, review_failed, also ends the attempt as rejected and can apply these consequences, even when the coach message suggests resubmitting. See Temporary model failures.
Configure a task pool
Open the Task module during lock setup, or use Edit Tasks when available in the active session. The current keyholder manages tasks on shared locks; self-lock editing depends on the session's editing controls. A shared keyholder without trust can edit tasks and reduce consequences, but cannot freely increase punishments or shorten deadlines.
- Add a task under Your Tasks, or load a template from Browse Community. The pool holds up to 100 tasks.
- Set a clear title and instructions, then choose minimum duration, maximum duration, reward, and optional proof requirements. Leave enough time between assignment and deadline for the minimum timer and upload.
- If the points system is enabled, assign each task's points and the desired unlock threshold. Ensure the pool contains tasks that earn points.
- Review Failed Task Punishments, any per-task failure-time override, the selection mode, and cooldown.
- Save the module with Save Configuration or Enable and Save Configuration. Changes to individual task fields remain local until the module is saved.
Prevent AI assignment excludes that saved task from automatic AI/Bot assignment. It is not a general exclusion from the wearer picker, wheel, or task schedules.
You can Export a pool and Import it into another Task module. Import replaces the tasks currently shown in the editor; it does not merge them. Review the imported requirements and any schedules pointing to old tasks, then save.
Assignments retain a snapshot of their task instructions and requirements. Editing or removing the pool entry does not rewrite an attempt already assigned. Module-wide failure settings can still affect what happens when an open attempt fails.
Automatic assignments
Under Automatic task assignments, add a schedule and choose a specific task or Random task from the pool. Each schedule can use:
- Repeating interval: from 1 hour to 90 days. The first assignment is due after one interval from lock start, or after saving a changed schedule during the lock.
- Weekly schedule: selected weekdays and a time, interpreted using the wearer's configured time zone.
Multiple schedules can run together. Scheduled assignments share the same open-task capacity; a full queue delays a due assignment until space is available. Removing a schedule stops its future assignments, not tasks it has already created.
Disabling the module
Disable Module retains the pool, settings, and existing assignments. New selections and automatic task schedules stop while it is disabled. Existing task deadlines are not paused or canceled by disabling the module, and can still expire. Resolve or cancel open assignments separately.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to check |
|---|---|
| Cannot pick another task | A wearer-selected task is still open, the picker cooldown is active, the 10-task limit is reached, the module is disabled, or no task is currently available in an each-once cycle. |
| An assigned task is missing | Check all Open tasks, then Task History. A new assignment changes the default selection without replacing earlier tasks. |
| Completion is unavailable | Start and finish the minimum timer, check the completion deadline, obtain required photo approval, or finish the linked writing task/quiz. |
| Pool edits did not update an assigned task | Open the specific attempt and read its saved requirements. Pool edits apply to future assignments, so similarly named attempts may have different settings. |
| A timer expired while working on another task | Maximum durations begin at assignment and run independently. Switching tasks does not defer a deadline. |
| A completion request failed | Reopen Tasks and check the attempt's current status and lock history before starting another attempt. If the result or reward is still wrong, include the task title, assignment time, and displayed error when contacting support. |
